According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Outlook-for-Nuclear-Energy-in-Canada-Report-September-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canadian Nuclear Association\u2019s 2025 outlook<\/a>, national peak electricity demand is projected to grow&nbsp;<strong>2.4\u00d7 by 2050<\/strong>&nbsp;under a reference scenario, driven by electrification, population growth, critical minerals processing, and industries such as AI. Meeting that demand will require approximately&nbsp;<strong>150 GW of new firm generation capacity<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>115 GW of new non emitting baseload power<\/strong>\u2014a scale that cannot be delivered by intermittent resources alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-86359619 gb-headline-text\">Nuclear energy already plays a foundational role in addressing this challenge. It is Canada\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carboncredits.com\/from-now-to-2060-how-canadas-smrs-and-maritime-nuclear-power-will-drive-a-net-zero-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second largest source of non-emitting electricity<\/a><\/strong>, supplying roughly&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/world-nuclear.org\/information-library\/country-profiles\/countries-a-f\/canada-nuclear-power\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">15% of total national electricity generation<\/a><\/strong>, and nearly&nbsp;<strong>60% of Ontario\u2019s power<\/strong>, where it has enabled one of the cleanest and most reliable grids in North America. Internationally,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/natural-resources.canada.ca\/energy-sources\/canada-s-national-statement-nuclear-energy-summit-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canada<\/a>&nbsp;joined more than 20 countries at COP28 in committing to the goal of&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thenorthernstar.ca\/nuclear-energy-canada-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050<\/a><\/strong>, recognizing nuclear\u2019s essential role in achieving net zero while maintaining energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-b1d2455d gb-headline-text\">Against this backdrop, there is a simple truth we must be prepared to say clearly:&nbsp;<strong>nuclear energy is not optional for Canada\u2019s future \u2014 it is essential.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-fe7a71bc gb-headline-text\">For decades, nuclear power has quietly underpinned Canada\u2019s economic prosperity, grid stability, and industrial competitiveness. Today, as the country advances toward a net zero emissions economy and confronts sustained growth in electricity demand, nuclear must remain a cornerstone of the national energy system. There is no credible pathway to deep decarbonization, energy security, or long-term affordability that excludes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-b178c960 gb-headline-text\">This conviction is not ideological. It is grounded in evidence, experience, and responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-26f4462e gb-headline-text\">Nuclear power uniquely delivers largescale, non-emitting, dispatchable electricity \u2014 the kind required to keep hospitals running, factories productive, and communities resilient in all seasons and conditions. While renewables play an increasingly important role, they cannot alone meet the magnitude, reliability, and pace of Canada\u2019s future energy needs. Nuclear provides the firm foundation upon which the rest of the clean energy system can be built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-37a7591d gb-headline-text\">That is why I remain deeply committed to supporting strong, informed, and forward looking leadership for Canada\u2019s nuclear sector \u2014 at home and internationally \u2014 and to contributing meaningfully to the work of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/about-cna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canadian Nuclear Association<\/a>&nbsp;(CNA) and similar organizations that are advancing this mission.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-d04ea5fe gb-headline-text\">The Responsibility to Lead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-15bf7854 gb-headline-text\">Canada is uniquely positioned. We possess a mature nuclear fleet, a highly credible regulatory framework, abundant uranium resources, and a deep pool of technical expertise. At a moment when many countries are re-evaluating nuclear energy as part of their decarbonization strategies, Canada has both an opportunity and a responsibility to lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-529958f7 gb-headline-text\">Doing so requires clear thinking, disciplined policymaking, and voices willing to engage constructively \u2014 acknowledging legitimate concerns while articulating the indispensable role nuclear plays in achieving a secure, affordable, and low carbon energy future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-3a2886ae gb-headline-text\">That is the perspective I bring, and the responsibility I take seriously as a leader in Nuclear Solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-12734125 gb-headline-text\">Nuclear energy has served Canada well for generations.
